Wolverine Worldwide is a global marketer of branded footwear, as well as apparel and accessories, best known for its Hush Puppies and Merrell flagship brands. Wolverine also manufactures footwear for Caterpillar, Harley-Davidson, and Patagonia, and, in 2012, added Saucony, Keds, Stride Rite, and Sperry Top-Sider to their list of subsidiaries.
Based in Michigan, Wolverine trades in 193 countries and has a global turnover of approximately USD 5.3 Bn. Their successful Retail Group operates 444 stores in 3 countries and, in 2012, launched in India via a joint venture with Tata International, India’s most recognisable and reputable corporations.
RMC has a lot of experience advising brands and retailers wishing to launch in India, both domestic and international incomers. As such, and building on our existing relationship, we were invited by Tata International to guide their new partner through the strategic planning phase and specifically to advise on the organisational design of Wolverine’s new Indian business.
Caterpillar launched with great success in the spring of 2013, and the arrival of additional footwear, accessories, and apparel brands is expected in short order.
In addition to strategic advisory services, RMC was invited to recruit Wolverine’s top leadership team for its Buying, Sales, Logistics, and Finance functions, plus a further six executive management roles. This talented management team has been tasked with profitably expanding the Wolverine stable of a dozen footwear, fashion accessories, and apparel brands for launch in India.
“Tata International Wolverine Brands Ltd has hired four leadership team members in the past 18 months through RMC. RMC has been a strategic partner and sounding board in our talent acquisition process and has contributed to the formation of our entire leadership team.
RMC has a deep understanding of the retail business and the organizational requirements to enable success – in India and internationally. They brought a professional approach and were a pleasure to work with – through normal and challenging times.”
