“Like… working with someone in our own team”

“The team from RMC were involved in the initial conceptualization of Sri Lanka’s first LEED certified warehouse and office facility.

In addition to helping select the best resources and outlining roles and responsibilities, their background of Supply chain & Retail logistics provided valuable insights in developing the initial designs and plans.

Throughout this process, we were very impressed with their approach and the ability to clearly map out our requirements most of which we were not able to put down on paper.

It was like we were working with someone in our own team who had the same dedication and focus to see the project through.”

EFL Global

Transforming a regional 3PL into a global player

Founded in 1982, EFL Global provides world-class 3PL and freight forwarding operations across the Indian subcontinent, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the United States.

Primarily based in Sri Lanka, whose ports have been the major stopover on the historic maritime Silk Route for over a millennium, EFL Global has grown to become one of the largest logistics companies in the region, handling products ranging from consumer electronics to perishables and pharmaceuticals.

However, it was in support of the global apparel and fashion industries where EFL Global would become best renowned. In a world of fast fashion, short lead times, and the democratisation of the Internet, demand to deliver – at speed and with accuracy – has never been greater. The scale of opportunity was clear, but embracing the challenge meant changing-up.

We were approached by EFL Global during the planning phase of their ambitious project to consolidate operations in Colombo into one site by creating a purpose-built 25,000 ft2 Head Office and a 100,000 ft2 environmentally-friendly state-of-the-art fashion warehouse, geared toward creating hanging garment shipments in a “retail ready” condition.

  • Initial designs for the layout and equipment had been submitted by external partners, but before the Directors were prepared to sanction such a major investment, RMC was brought in to conduct a thorough appraisal of the plans, proposed operating processes, and readiness for the future requirements.

Following an intensive on-site orientation, planning data was re-analysed, and volume expansion expectations challenged. This resulted in significant modifications to the facility’s original layout and equipment requirements, which were then costed and approved for implementation.

When the EFL Global Campus opened in 2015, the facility became Sri Lanka’s first and only LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold Certified Warehouse, recognising green design, sustainable practices, and resource efficiency.

Since then, EFL Global has consolidated its position as a market leader, powered by new fashion retail solutions, best practice operations, and capacity to take advantage of the surge in global eCommerce.

We’re proud to have played our part in transforming EFL Global from regional operator into a global player, connecting manufacturers and customers all over the world. Writing a new chapter in the history of the maritime Silk Route was right up our street too!
